Voluntary Consent

Your job is something between an autopsy and a survey. In this detective visual novel, you are an interrogation inspector who extracts information from still-living brains. Every day you analyze documents, gather evidence, and make a hard choice: conscience, duty, or the voices in your own head.

Voluntary Consent scene: jar specimen and interrogation interface

“An easy little office job somewhere between an autopsy and a survey, friendly coworkers, quiet clients, and funny gadgets. Even a company flat, and not quite on the outskirts. Looks like I've landed on my feet. Now, what should I get for dinner?” — such were the thoughts of our hero, Konstantin Safin, inspector at the Republican Neural Safekeeping Service (RNSS). He had no idea what a sharp turn his snug little life was about to take over the next couple of days.

Voluntary Consent is a detective visual novel set in a fictional world full of black humor, synthetic sounds, and 1-bit graphics. In this game we:

  • read documents (with our eyes) and minds (with the equipment);
  • talk to coworkers, witnesses, and other semi-inanimate objects;
  • eat (lunch);
  • wander the city at different times of day;
  • try not to die (or at least not in the dumbest way possible);
  • collect (and quietly destroy) evidence;
  • casually make hard choice between our conscience, the code of conduct, and the voices in our heads;
  • eat again (dinner) and go to bed on time.
